Code of Ethics

This soccer program is designed to provide opportunities for players to:

• Have fun and socialize
• Learn how to be a team player in an environment of co-operation
• Experience the joy of healthy competition
• Develop a positive attitude towards physical activity and sport
• Enhance individual skills and understanding
• Respect for self and others
• Learn lessons of tolerance and commitment

To realize the soccer program's goal, the CODE OF ETHICS was developed to establish and maintain a safe and positive environment on the sidelines and on the playing field.

The CODE OF ETHICS sets out expectations for every player, parentlguardian, spectator, coach and referee. As a community we share in the responsibility of creating a learning and social environment based on mutual respect, caring, support and commitment to excellence.

WE EXPECT PLAYERS TO:

• Have fun, learn a lot and make friends.
• Play and learn by the rules. Ask lots of questions.
• Enjoy being part of a team. Cheer all good plays.
• Console your teammates when they make a mistake.
• Remember that other people's feelings matter. Remember that your feelings matter.
• Controlling your temper and emotions while on the field. It is part of the learning.
• Play just for the fun of it.
• Tell your coach or referee if you are injured while playing.
• Tell your coach if you can't make a game or practice.
• Remember winning is fun but it's the enjoyment of playing that lasts the longest.
• Improve your skills and do your best.
• Tell an adult you trust if someone is hurting or threatening you.
• Remember to treat people the way you want to be treated. It is part of your job as a player to create a positive environment. If you are angry or upset, ask for help. You can't take it out on other players, coaches, referees or parenUguardians.
• Any abuse, including verbal will not be tolerated.

WE EXPECT PARENTS AND GUARDIANS TO:

• Remember that many of the referees are also children who need your support and encouragement to learn.
• Remember mistakes are an important part of learning. Remind your child that everyone makes
them, including you.
• Cheer on the coach, as well as players. Be sure to talk privately with the coach if you have any questions or suggestions.
• Be generous in showing your appreciation to volunteer coaches and officials.
• Respect the other players, coaches, referees and parents.
• Applaud all good plays. Excellence on both sides is to be shared.
• Emphasize the importance of fair play in the spirit of fair play.
• Remember children play for their own reasons and enjoyment.
• Learn the game and understand the rules so that you can make helpful informed suggestions.
• Volunteer your services whenever possible.
• Help us to eliminate all traces of violence from children's sports. Be strong and vocal in supporting a positive sports environment. Remind each other of the CODE OF ETHICS expectations. Support other parents/guardians, coaches or officials if a spectator is asked to leave due to negative reactions or emotional displays.

WE EXPECT COACHES TO:

• Enjoy the experience of coaching and know that the time and effort are important to the whole
community.
• Create a safe and comfortable environment for leaming for everyone involved.
• Put the safety of players and spectators first.
• To help the children improve within their abilities and desires
• To expect the best from players and their parents in creating a positive sporting environment together.
• Emphasize the importance of fair play in the spirit of fair play.
• Emphasize winning is fun but it's the enjoyment of playing that last the longest.
• Create a high quality soccer program for players within a positive environment.
• Be generous with praise and constructive with criticism.
• Applaud all good plays. Excellence on both sides is to be shared.
• Be knowledgeable in the rules according to FIFA and WMYSL and keep attuned to the Principles of Coaching.
• Demonstrate respect for all officials, players, opponents, parents/guardians and spectators.
• Share the love of the game freely with everyone involved.

WE EXPECT REFEREES TO:

• Enjoy the experience of refereeing and know that the time and effort are important to the whole
community.
• Create a safe and comfortable environment for learning for everyone involved.
• Put the safety of players and spectators first.
• To expect the best from players and their parents in creating a positive sporting environment together.
• Emphasize the importance of fair play in the spirit of fair play.
• Emphasize winning is fun but it's the enjoyment of playing that lasts the longest.
• Create a high quality soccer program for players within a positive environment.
• Be generous with praise and constructive with criticism.
• Applaud all good plays. Excellence on both sides is to be shared.
• Be knowledgeable in the rules according to FIFA and WMYSL and deep attuned to the sound Principles of Refereeing.
• Demonstrate respect for all officials, players, opponents, parents/guardians and spectators.
Remind others that all individuals are unique and a part of the community.
• Share the love of the game freely with everyone involved.
• Utilize, to the best of your ability, your knowledge and experience while making calls.

CONSEQUENCES:

We believe that everyone should receive positive reinforcement everyday. Consequences for positive actions can take many forms:
• A nod or a smile
• A "thank-you"
• A word of communication
• A comment to a parent/guardian
Consequences for inappropriate behavior or contravention of the CODE OF ETHICS will result in the player, team, parent, spectator, coach and/or referee being asked to leave the playing field or the game will be forfeited.
